Plebiscite O!Lśnienia by Onet and city of Cracow Award

The Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź is among those awarded in this year’s cultural plebiscite O!Lśnienia organized by the Onet editorial team and the city of Cracow. The museum received a special award granted by the editorial team of Vogue Polska, the event’s partner.

The initiative focuses on the most interesting and socially recognized cultural events of recent months. It promotes projects and creators who set trends in Polish culture, surpassing boundaries of imagination, being innovators and discoverers seeking new ways of expression in art.

The ceremony took place on March 8th at the Łaźnia Nowa Theater in Cracow. The award on behalf of the museum was accepted by Aneta Dalbiak, the director of the museum.

We have been connected with the Museum of Textiles in Łódź since the beginning of our existence. We have written numerous times about exhibitions taking place there, and we are now on the eve of the largest presentation of Arkadius’s work in history, offering a new perspective on his projects and supporting the communication of the upcoming exhibition – Szymon Machnikowski, marketing and PR director of Vogue Polska.

Doskonałość Mody 2023 – ‘Twój STYL’ Magazine Award

‘Doskonałość Mody’ Award by “Twój STYL” magazine is a competition organized since 1999. It is one of the most important fashion events in Poland. The jury evaluates the best collections created by artists, interesting clothing and accessory designs, important initiatives, and campaigns promoting valuable values. The Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź received the award in the category of place. The museum was recognised for its contribution to presenting contemporary Polish fashion, achievements of Polish designers, and phenomena illustrating fashion as an important part of cultural heritage.

The jury, which included figures such as Kasia Sokołowska, fashion show director, designer Ania Kuczyńska, fashion journalist Harel, Dr. Janusz Noniewicz, head of the Fashion Department at the ASP in Warsaw, singers Mela Koteluk and Natalia Szroeder, and editors of the “Twój STYL” magazine, decided on the outcome. The jubilee gala marking the 25th anniversary of the competition took place in Warsaw and was highlighted by a fashion show featuring the collection of MMC Design, a duo of graduates from the Department of Clothing Design at the ASP in Łódź.

The Museum has been intensively developing its collection of contemporary fashion for several years, presenting it as an important part of collective cultural heritage.

Utilizing extensive and diverse collections, it organizes exhibitions dedicated to Polish and foreign designers who have played a significant role in the development of Polish fashion. And on 9th June 2024, the museum will open another fashion exhibition, ‘Arkadius. Great Passions. Confrontations.’ It will be the world’s first exhibition summarising the work of Arkadiusz Weremczuk – the most famous Polish designer.

The exhibition will feature objects representing 14 collections by Arkadiusz from the museum’s resources. The designer’s creations will be the starting point for a fascinating story about a boy from a small town, who first goes to the prestigious fashion department of Central Saint Martins in London, then interns with Alexander McQueen, and shortly after, is hailed as an extravagant, eccentric, and incredibly talented artist.

Soon Arkadius dresses celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Björk, Boy George or Brad Pitt. He opens boutiques in London and Warsaw. And on the lists of the most important designers, he is alongside McQueen, Stella McCartney, or Vivienne Westwood. Influential fashion magazines write about him, and his collections are showcased in renowned museums worldwide. And ten years later, Arkadius disappears.

The exhibition will tell a story of great success, fame, and recognition, but also about jealousy and controversies that the designer aroused. We will see his most famous, groundbreaking collections, including the pacifist manifesto ‘United States of Mind’, the reference to Polish folk culture ‘Paulina’, or the captivatingly artful ‘Virgin Mary Wears The Trousers’.
