The site that became known as the Great Synagogue at Tlomackie Street functioned as an important spiritual center of the Warsaw Jewish community until 1939. The community was an inseparable part of the population of Warsaw at the time.

The 77th anniversary of the destruction of the Great Synagogue (May 16, 1943) is also the day on which the Warsaw Ghetto uprising was finally quelled by the Germans.

Professor Marcus Silber’s lecture – the Great Warsaw Synagogue at Tlomackie Street and its social and cultural function in the life of the Jewish community before 1939 presents a picture of this period in the history of Warsaw.
