National Remembrance Day of the underground soldiers fighting for freedom against the communist regime that ruled Poland in 1945

The Cursed (Banned) Soldiers National Remembrance Day, celebrated on March 1, is a celebration of the underground soldiers fighting for freedom

against the communist regime that ruled Poland in 1945.

“Accursed soldiers” is a nickname given to underground soldiers who opposed the communist rule brutally imposed on Poland in the post-war years.

One of the leaders of the of the anti-communist underground, Łukasz Ciepliński, was murdered in prison on March 1, 1951 by officers of the communist special services.

This date became the official day to commemorate their fight.

“The war is not over… We will never agree to give up the absolute independence and freedom of the Polish state… This is my last order! Keep fighting for Poland’s independence,”

wrote the last commander of the Home Army, General Leopold Okulicki. Most of his subordinate soldiers obeyed and followed his voice. Most of them were doomed.
