“The Man with the White Eyes” by Leopold Tyrmand – A literary encounter

A literary encounter inspired by Leopold Tyrmand’s novel "The Man with the White Eyes” will investigate the story and its historical-sociological background. In the framework of the European Book Club

A literary encounter inspired by Leopold Tyrmand’s novel “The Man with the White Eyes” will take place on October 13, 2020 at 11:00.

The encounter will be conducted in Hebrew on Zoom.

The world of organized crime in Warsaw in the 50s and the mysterious character who defends the city dwellers.

Back in those days Warsaw was rising from wartime ruins and the city embraced the mysterious character whose trademark were his white eyes that glowed in the darkness of the night.

Tyrmand’s book became a best-seller in Poland. It was translated into Hebrew by Aryeh (Jimmy) Nevo and published by Carmel.

 

Participants in the encounter:

Michael Handelsaltz – journalist, literary critic, translator; Dr. Hilik Weizman – historian; Mikey Dagan – journalist, former deputy editor of “Haaretz”; Aryeh Navo – translated “The Bad” into Hebrew.

The encounter will be held in Hebrew and its topic will be the book’s historical and social context.

The encounter will be held in the framework of the European Book Club in cooperation with libraries and European Institutes of Culture in Israel and the Beit Ariela Library in Tel Aviv.
