Lem in Bezalel in a day of Art, Literature and Imagination

A special day held in cooperation with the Screen Arts Dept in Bezalel which will cover the different aspects in the works of Stanislaw Lem with the participation of researchers, creators, and professionals from Israel and Poland

A special day held in cooperation with the Screen Arts Dept in Bezalel which will cover the different aspects in the works of Stanislaw Lem

with the participation of researchers, creators, and professionals from Israel and Poland.  

This special day will bring together movies, aliens, art, and the work of Stanislaw Lem with the participation of the Screen Based Arts Dept in Bezalel

and will take place on Thursday March 24 2022 from 10:00 onwards.  

Held via Zoom.  

Ahead of this day a special call for papers invited academics and artists to submit short lectures (in Hebrew, English, or Polish) by March 3 2022.  

The timetable is:  

10:30 – Noon – Lem and the Visual Imagination. With Polish artist Joanna Karpowicz and Przemel Debowski who designed the covers for the MIT series of Lem books.

Art director Wojciech Ostrycharz, who is one of the creators involved in making The Invincible video game which will soon be released. He also served as the animator for Another Day of Life.

A film on Polish reporter Ryszard Kapuscinski.  

13: 30 – 15:00 – LEM Visions of the Future – A panel dealing with the future of humanity in Lem’s perspective. The panel will include futurologist Aleksandra Przegalinska and academic

Krzystof Mai who studied video games.  

15:30 – 17:00 – World Building Lem. This panel will deal with how Lem created imaginary worlds that function as one unit despite them not being real. Speakers include Prof. Ilona Gomel,

who is about to release a new English language study of Lem, and publisher Ranni Graf.  

The day will include the launching of an animated short film competition in honor of Lem.

Polish film at the Jerusalem Jewish Film

The film “Cywia and Rachel” by Rafaël Lewandowski, which explores the lives of Rachel Auerbach and Cywia Lubetkin and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, will participate this year in the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival. The festival will focus on Jewish identity and culture and will present dozens of films and special events during the Hanukkah holiday.
