The Polish Institute, together with Moreshet – Mordechai Anielewicz Memorial Study and Research Center and Yuval Dancyg, is proud to support and promote the initiative “ The Alex Dancyg Legacy.” As part of the project, a modern educational application is being developed — one that will transform the legacy of Alex Dancyg into a living, interactive multimedia experience.

On October 7, 2023, Alex Dancyg, a distinguished historian and educator born in Poland, was abducted from his home in Nir Oz by Hamas terrorists and murdered in captivity. His death left a profound void in the hearts of many — his family, students, and friends. Alex dedicated his life to teaching and Holocaust education. He was also a key figure in fostering a deep historical dialogue between Jews and Poles. He left behind a vast intellectual, emotional, and educational legacy — including six guides to Poland, developed in collaboration with a researcher Batia Dvir.

Alex Dancyg was much more than a historian or Holocaust guide. He was an educator, a symbol of dialogue, and a true bridge between people. He trained hundreds of guides, combining deep knowledge with exceptional sensitivity, and educated generations of students to understand the Holocaust in its broad historical, human, and moral context.

A new and innovative educational app – “The Alex Dancyg Legacy” – is currently being developed to preserve his heritage and life’s work. The app will allow anyone around the world to explore Poland accompanied by the materials Alex created throughout his life, and to experience the country through his eyes. The project is growing through the joint efforts of people who believe in the power of memory, dialogue, and education. It is a community-driven campaign, whose strength lies in the commitment and cooperation of many individuals — giving the initiative its unique value. At this stage, the creators of the application are reaching out for public support to help build a cutting-edge educational platform that will allow users to discover Poland through Alex’s eyes.

Every contribution will help bring Alex’s dream to life and continue the historical dialogue he so deeply believed in. The Polish Institute encourages everyone to take part in this meaningful initiative — one that will turn his legacy into an educational and historical platform. By combining memory, education, and technology, the application will enable future generations to learn from Alex Dancyg’s life work and follow in his footsteps.
