As part of the “Salon Polin” series, the Polish Institute is pleased to host a journalist and cultural researcher Ofir Hovav for a special lecture inspired by the large-scale exhibition The Question of Women in Art, currently on view at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
The lecture, titled Anonymous Was a Woman: How Women Were Erased from Art History, will explore the forgotten stories of women artists whose works were attributed for centuries to male creators, and examine how the canon of art history was constructed. Through a fascinating investigative journey beginning in the Northern Renaissance and passing through Gdańsk and Warsaw, we will look at how art history was written — and who was left outside the frame.
The event will address questions of visibility, erasure, gender, and cultural memory, while examining how contemporary research challenges historical attributions and long-standing assumptions in the art world.
Ofir Hovav is a journalist and culture and fashion writer for Haaretz. Her work focuses on the intersection of art, fashion, and visual culture, exploring how identity, gender, and historical narratives are reflected in contemporary creative practice.
