#PolishCultureKatchUp – Kuba Mikurda

Renown film expert invites you to explore the surreal world of Brothers Quay films.

Kuba Mikurda is a filmmaker, film critic, film curator, film book series writer and editor, and film scholar. He discussed contemporary film authors (Terry Gilliam, Brothers Quay, Walerian Borowczyk) as well as surrealism in Polish cinema in books written/co-edited by him. Previously he taught visual culture and psychoanalysis at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and currently teaches at the Film School in Łódź, running a course on the new European cinema. He has delivered a number of guest lectures abroad, including British Film Institute and Tate Modern in London and Volksbühne in Berlin.

Fascinated by the idea of mixing film practice and research, Mikurda has explored various forms of visual film analysis, including directing a feature documentary Love Express: The Disappearance of Walerian Borowczyk for HBO Europe.

For #PolishCultureKatchUp Kuba Mikurda prepared a few quotes on Brothers Quay and their unconventional filmmaking, inviting you to enter their surreal world.
