A world premiere of composer Roxanna Panufnik's 'Five Polish Folk Songs', an adaptation of her late father, the great composer Andrzej Panufnik's 'Five Polish Peasant Songs'

Wednesday 8th March 7:30pm sees the world premiere of ‘Five Polish Folk Songs’ – an orchestration and adaptation by composer Roxanna Panufnik of her father Andrzej’s (Andrzej Panufnik) ‘Five Polish Peasant Songs’, with new translations and much drama…

Commissioned and performed by the fantastic City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, their Youth and Children’s Chorus and conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.

Roxanna, her mother Lady Camilla Panufnik and Jem Panufnik will all be there at the event.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
