Hieroglyphic Being & Jerzy Maczynski @ EFG London Jazz Festival

A joint project of acclaimed American sound artist Jamal Moss (Hieroglyphic Being) and Polish saxophonist/producer/composer Jerzy Mączyński

13th November, 8pm, Moth Club Old Trades Hall, Valette Street, London E9 6NU

A joint project of acclaimed American sound artist Jamal Moss (Hieroglyphic Being) and Polish saxophonist/producer/composer Jerzy Mączyński, this event is a London premiere of the album ‘Tune in: Universal Harmonies and Frequenciesʼ as part of the EFG London Jazz festival.

Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, remains at all-times a radical one-off musical explorer, a resolute pioneer of an avant-garde dance music aesthetic taking lineage from the founding fathers of acid house such as Ron Hardy and Adonis, and pushing the musical form to its own limits, adding his own harder almost industrial edge to this unique sound, which Moss sometimes describes as ‘Outsider Houseʼ or, referencing the earlier avant-garde musical resident and pioneer, Sun Ra – ‘Rhythmic Cubismʼ and ‘Cosmic Be-Bopʼ.

Polish multi-instrumentalist composer/producer Jerzy Mączyński started from free jazz and after a few years of creative development, he smoothly shifted to electronic music, combining varied approaches to music in his compositions.

In 2019 he released his debut album in a quintet / sextet in the prestigious jazz series in Poland “Polish Jazz”.

In 2021 he released ‘SARIANI” (Yeyeh Rec.) as Jerry&ThePelicanSystem.

Since SARIANI LP Jerzy presents his music mainly as a solo performer, using the saxophone – sopranino or tenor – as the tools to produce the sounds of an entire orchestra, which he named “PelicanSystem orchestra”.

In his career, Mączyński has presented his music on many national and international stages, including: EFG London Jazz Festival, South Explorer Rotterdam, OFF Festival, Soundrive Festival, Jazz Jantar, NCPA Mumbai Experimental Stage and many others.

The performance will be accompanied by visuals made by Katarzyna Dębska.

Supported by the Polish Cultural Institute in London.
