Talk: The Cultural Lives of Central and Eastern European Migrants in Mansfield and Nottinghamshire in the Twentieth Century – CEE NOTTS

Join Elysia Louise Heitmar for this fascinating talk, charting the lives and cultural activities of migrants arriving in Mansfield and Nottinghamshire, from Central and Eastern Europe throughout the course of the twentieth century.

‘The Cultural Lives of Central and Eastern European Migrants in Mansfield and Nottinghamshire, in the Twentieth Century’ will explore how various migrant groups settled and founded rich communities, in the Mansfield and wider Nottinghamshire area.

From the Nottingham Film Theatre’s Hungarian Film Week, the 1967 Miss Polonia Ball to the Lithuanian mixed choir; by drawing upon extensive research from local archives, the talk will highlight the rich and diverse cultural lives of Nottinghamshire’s Central and Eastern European communities, and their continued cultural connection to their heritage and home communities.

Following the talk an exhibition ‘When the war was over: European refugees after 1945’ by the University of Nottingham and University of Manchester will be on show, delving into the history of resettling displaced persons in the aftermath of World War Two.
