The Tomasz Zyrmont Quartet – 6th June London Concert

Following a sold out January concert, the contemporary jazz quartet return to Ognisko to deliver a concert of original compositions, alongside jazz standards delivered with improvisation and finesse.

Following a sold-out concert in January, which generated immense applause, Tomasz Zyrmont is returning to Ognisko Polskie. So, if you were unable to attend the previous concert, or would like more of the same, Tomasz is returning accompanied by leading musicians from London’s jazz scene: Sean Khan playing saxophone, Ben Hazleton on double bass, and drummer Filippo Galli. Together they will perform Tomasz’s original compositions, alongside jazz standards delivered with improvisation and finesse. Tomasz Zyrmont, who is based in London, has played at celebrated venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the 606 Club, Boisdale Canary Wharf and the British Houses of Parliament.

Tomasz Zyrmont is a Polish pianist, composer, and educator based in London. Recognised through his participation in prominent events like the London Jazz Festival, East European Jazz Festival, Yamaha Music Live, Wigmore Lates, and the Jazz FM Discovery Show, he has performed at prestigious venues across Europe and beyond. His compositions have received widespread acclaim, gaining airplay on numerous radio stations and earning the attention of leading clubs and promoters.

A graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, Tomasz later furthered his education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

Tomasz has showcased his talents internationally, performing across Poland, the UK, Germany, the USA, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. His music has graced prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, 606 Club, Boisdale of Canary Wharf, Yamaha Music London, Tate Modern, the British Parliament in London, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels, LuxExpo in Luxembourg, and the Blueboat Jazz Festival in Germany.

With a dedication to jazz innovation and education, Tomasz continues to captivate audiences with his dynamic performances and original compositions.

Beyond his solo piano performances, Tomasz has been involved in various acoustic and electric projects, including Groove Razors. He later founded the Tomasz Zyrmont Quartet, his primary ensemble, featuring some of the UK’s top jazz musicians.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
