My Child, Oh My Child – (‘Moje Dziecko, O Moje Dziecko’), a new play by Danny Masewicz

Copernicana and firstlight theatre present a new play by Danny Masewicz, ‘My Child, Oh My Child’ the third in ‘A Polish Trilogy’ at the Bear Pit Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The trilogy began in 2023 with the stunning ‘Under Katyń’, followed by the acclaimed ‘Do Not Forget Me’ in 2024.

9th-12th July, Bear Pit Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon

Iza is searching for her son whom she relinquished to adoption. He too yearns for reunification. Iza meets eight Polish immigrants in a community centre in Stratford-upon-Avon. Together, they help her journey by sharing their stories of courage, resilience and hope. The story follows them across Europe and Asia as they piece back their lost families. A single rouble note flutters across a railway line change a life forever. Dreams and ghostly encounters in Uganda bring the taste of freedom. Hope is born through resisting the Soviet tanks that rolled into Lvov while seeing the future in a wall of mirrors. Magical meetings in ancient forests bring life-long joy. A Warsaw underground fighter becomes a teacher to a US President. They discover it is the power of story that offers reconciliation, forgiveness and love. Will the son and his mother find each other?

Copernicana recorded these stories in extensive interviews with Polish residents of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Danny Masewicz turned them into an astonishing drama and in a poignant coincidence, found his own story to be the heart of the play.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
