BACEWICZ X BOMSORI Film Screening – 13th August, Edinburgh

Screening of the film "Bacewicz x Bomsori," followed by a conversation with Bomsori Kim and special guests from the Edinburgh International Festival, plus a solo violin performance by the artist performing Grażyna Bacewicz, Kaprys Polski (Polish Caprice) at the Dominion Cinema.

The “Bacewicz x Bomsori” film tells the story of outstanding South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim’s preparing for a live performance of Grażyna Bacewicz’s Polish Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Poland on the 7th of March, 2025. While discovering the piece, the violinist simultaneously gets to know the composer better.

The film reveals the story of the discovery of forgotten musical works and how they were their bringing back to the stages. “Bacewicz x Bomsori” is an intimate portrait of concert violinist and musician who sacrifices a lot in the name of the art and music.

Bomsori Kim is a frequent guest of the world’s most famous music venues (New York’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, London’s Royal Albert Hall and BBC Proms, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus). In February 2021 she signed an exclusive contract with the prestigious Deutsche Grammophone label. As of this year, she also bears the honourable title of ambassador of Grażyna Bacewicz’s music, which she performs worldwide, promoting the legacy of Poland’s most important woman composer.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Bomsori Kim and solo violin performance during which she will perform Polish Caprice written by Grażyna Bacewicz, recorded in June, 2025 by the Deutsche Grammophone.

The event is organized by PWM Edition in cooperation with the Polish Cultural Institute in London and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh. The film is produced by PWM Edition within the “Sounds of Poland. Bacewicz” project and is financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland within the framework of the “Inspiring Culture” Programme.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
