BCLT International Literary Translation & Creative Writing Summer School

The University of East Anglia Norwich is offering online summer classes in BCLT Literary Translation, including the Polish language with workshops run by Antonia Lloyd-Jones and Małgorzata Margo Rejmer.

The workshop strands for 2026 will all be translating into English and are as follows:

  • Arabic
  • French (Advanced) – an editing workshop for more advanced translators with at least one full length publication (prose fiction) or equivalent.
  • German
  • Korean
  • Multilingual Poetry – South Asian languages (more information below)
  • Multilingual Prose fiction – All other languages
  • Multilingual Prose fiction – South Asian languages (more information below)
  • Polish
  • Spanish
  • Training the Trainer
  • Turkish

We are excited to be offering two workshops for translators of South Asian languages, generously supported by SALT. For the purposes of the SALT Project, South Asia includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

SALT supports the translation of literature written in any nationally recognized or regional South Asian language except English. Eligible languages include but are not limited to: Assamese, Balochi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Bodo, Brahui, Burmese, Dhivehi, Dogri, Dzongkha, Gujarati, Hindi, Hindko, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Pashto, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Saraiki, Sindhi, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

After 26 years of running literary translation summer schools, the BCLT Summer School is a vibrant, tried and tested format for the professional development of literary translators. Not only does it provide a nurturing environment for translators to work on their craft; it also establishes a valuable network of translators, editors, publishers and indeed friends from around the world.

The core activity of the week is the literary translation workshops, led by experienced literary translators and editors, working from a range of languages into English. The university has also included in the programme two creative writing sessions for literary translators with authors writing in English, as well as plenary sessions addressing various aspects of the theory and practice of literary translation, with a focus on professional development for translators.
