Artist Talk: Weronika Gęsicka at the Photographers’ Gallery

Artist Talk: Weronika Gęsicka at the Photographers' Gallery. The Polish artist amongst the shortlisted for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2026!

11:00am – 12:15pm, Sat 07 Mar 2026
Tickets: available online from £7

Join this morning talk with Polish artist Weronika Gęsicka, nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Conceptually driven, Gęsicka works with photography, collage and digital manipulation to interrogate the construction of memory, history and visual culture.

In this talk, Gęsicka will reflect on her practice, talking through her use of archival imagery and speculative narratives to unsettle familiar representations of family, domesticity and identity. How can photography be used to blur fiction and reality, and how might they be reimagined to reveal tensions beneath seemingly ordinary scenes?

You can watch her works as well as Evelyn Atwood’s, Amak Mahmoodian’s and Rene Matić’s from 06 March 2026 to 07 June 2026. Moderated by curator Julia Bunnemann (The Photographers’ Gallery).

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
