A Theatrical Afternoon (Theatre Workshops) with Basilitrix Musical

Two creative workshops, one for adults, one for families, inspired by the Basilitrix musical ahead of its London premiere at Upstairs at the Gatehouse. All workshops in English, with Polish-language support available. All materials included.

5th September, Lewisham Polish Centre, Time: 14:00–16:30 – family workshops, 17:00–18:30 – adults’ workshop

Basilitrix Musical invites you to A Theatrical Afternoon at Lewisham Polish Centre!

Music, shadow puppetry workshops and a journey into the world of Warsaw legends! Create your own shadow puppet, learn songs from Basilitrix and sing them with us. We have prepared separate workshops for children, young people and adults – and all proceeds from the event will support the London premiere of Basilitrix this November.

Families with children and young people will discover the musical’s world, characters and music through shadow puppet-making and music workshops, learning excerpts from the show’s songs and the basics of harmony singing. The afternoon will conclude with a performance of excerpts from Basilitrix and a sing-along.

For adults, we have prepared an evening shadow puppetry workshop with live music. Participants will create their own puppets, learn the basics of puppetry and work together on a short theatrical sequence.

Basilitrix is an original English-language musical inspired by the Warsaw legend of the Basilisk and created for international audiences. Combining contemporary musical theatre with Slavic folklore, it tells a story of sisterhood, courage, curiosity and the search for truth.

The workshops will be led by members of the creative team: Ida Wrona (writer and producer), Kinga Pazik (director specialising in puppetry), Laoise Fleming (musical director) and Nicole Monroe (musical theatre performer).

By purchasing a ticket, you are supporting the London premiere of Basilitrix this November. All proceeds will go towards bringing the production to the stage and helping Polish legends and folklore reach London audiences. Basilitrix merchandise will also be available to purchase during the workshops.

The workshops will be held in English. A Polish-speaking team member will be present in each group to provide language support for anyone who feels less confident speaking English.
