On 12 and 15 November 2026, The Playground Theatre in London will host “The Swan, the Werewolf and Gianpiero” by Drama Queen Studios, a dark, physical and absurd comedy where Argentine tango meets theatrical chaos. Written by Polish actress, playwright and theatre-maker Agata Nielsen, the play draws on her own experience as a tango dancer, bringing an insider’s perspective to its wonderfully chaotic world.
The story begins five minutes before a performance, when Roxana breaks up with her tango partner Mateo. Their backstage argument spills onto the stage, where Gianpiero – an eccentric, self-proclaimed artistic genius of a director decides to turn the unfolding disaster into his latest masterpiece. Mateo is cast as a werewolf, Roxana as a swan, and the line between performance and reality quickly begins to disappear.
The cast includes Mateusz Mirek, Agata Nielsen, Erwin Janke and Maddy Miron. The play is written by Agata Nielsen, with Krystian Godlewski as Consulting Director.
Following a sold-out premiere at COLAB Theatre and a run at Camden Fringe, the production now joins the programme of Voilà! Europe Theatre Festival.
Join us for an evening of tango, absurdity and theatrical mayhem!
