Wojtek Mazolewski presents his Solo album live in the UK for the first time.

On October 21, Mazolewski will perform at London’s Rough Trade East, with a signing to follow. He will continue his UK tour with further dates in Birmingham and Leicester in November.

Solo – a deeply intimate yet boldly original album by Wojtek Mazolewski, one of the most distinctive voices on today’s European jazz scene – has attracted significant international attention, earning widespread critical acclaim and standout coverage in leading publications including DownBeat**, Jazzwise, Record Collector, GQ, and UK Vibe.

Solo offers a chamber-like, cinematic and deeply atmospheric listening experience. Despite its subtle instrumentation – double bass, harp, flute, percussion, gentle electronics and whispered vocals – the music captivates from the very first notes. Modern in spirit, it occasionally surprises with a gentle, dance-infused pulse. Mazolewski creates space for focus and reflection without ever falling into new-age clichés.

Mazolewski has performed for British audiences on numerous occasions, including sold-out shows with the Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet at London’s Jazz Café, as well as a recent sold-out performance at Cadogan Hall as part of the Polish Jazz Festival.

UK DATES:

21/10 – LONDON – Rough Trade East
10/11 – LEICESTER – St. Nicholas Church

11/11 – NUNEATON – TBA
12/11 – BIRMINGHAM – The Castle & Falcon

REVIEWS

“Rather than use the unadorned largely solo bass format of the album to make an ego-driven display of virtuosity, on Solo, Mazolewski instead places emotive melody at the forefront, creating imaginative soundscapes where his instrumentation simply serves to allow the listener to dream. (…) Whether he’s solo or not, for Mazolewski it seems the only way is forward.”
— DownBeat

“Mazolewski is definitely a fearless and highly original creator and I highly recommend checking this album out.”
— Jazzwise – 4/5

“A collection of striking and often atmospheric pieces built on a bedrock of plucked and bowed double bass lines, layered with voice, flutey keyboards, occasional folky guitar filigrees and electronic effects. Mesmerising.”
— Record Collector – 4/5

“Wojtek Mazolewski’s new album Solo is a breathtaking and captivating musical journey. (…) Solo is a masterclass in how a solo double bass album can be rich, cinematic, and deeply human. Essential listening.”
— UK Vibe – 5/5

“Wojtek Mazolewski’s Solo is a wonderful album, packed with contrast and also melodies. The music relaxes, inspires, excites, and above all, engages the listener. The double bass is given a place as the storytelling instrument. Its narrative is spirited and warm, interacting with other sounds and weaving works that tell of depths, reflection and rich emotion.”

Mother Joan of the Angels – 4k

This landmark of Polish cinema is based on the infamous ‘demonic possession’ of a group of nuns in Loudun, France in 1634, which led to a priest being burnt at the stake. These scandalous events also inspired Aldous Huxley’s 1952 novel The Devils of Loudon, and Ken Russell’s notorious 1971 film The Devils.
