The Ripple Effect by Alicja Patanowska – A Ceramic Reflection on Resource & Renewal at London Design Festival 2025
13th September – 19th October, V&A, John Madejski Garden, London, FREE
As part of this year’s London Design Festival, artist and designer Alicja Patanowska presents The Ripple Effect at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Crafted from mining waste sourced from Żelazny Most in Poland – Europe’s largest mining waste site – The Ripple Effect draws attention to the environmental cost of resource extraction. The structure features 2,000 handmade ceramic tiles, with eight glazed in copper, representing the stark imbalance between material waste and valuable yield.
The installation also includes a working fountain and built-in seating, offering visitors a chance to pause, reflect, and engage with the themes of sustainability, consumption, and renewal.
Presented in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, British Council, and Polish Cultural Institute in London as part of the UK/Poland Season of Culture 2025.
