Karolina Dworska: Neither Here Nor There (But Also Both at Once) at CPP Hounslow
Karolina Dworska’s latest exhibition, Neither Here Nor There (but also both at once), at CPP Hounslow, explores the liminal spaces of cultural identity, folklore, and memory. Commissioned for the UK/Poland Season 2025, it presents her immersive textile artworks that blend surreal dreamscapes with reflections on the immigrant experience. See it until October 2025.
Textile Dreams & Surreal Realities:
Dworska’s practice centers on textile creation, particularly rug-making, to navigate the borderlands between dream and reality, nostalgia and memory. Her work draws on science fiction, body horror, and the fantastical visions of Hieronymus Bosch, creating unsettling yet captivating worlds that challenge perception.
A Dual Identity:
Born in Poland and moving to the UK in 2004, Dworska identifies as a “Ponglish kid,” balancing two cultural identities. Her new commissioned textile triptych reimagines landmarks from her upbringing as monumental, fantastical images, capturing the tension of living between worlds.
Exhibition Highlights:
The show features the new triptych alongside earlier works, creating a dialogue across her evolving practice. Dworska, a Goldsmiths graduate and former Junior Fellow, has exhibited widely, including Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2021 at the South London Gallery and Firstsite, Colchester.
Dworska’s work turns the intangible—memory, identity, and belonging—into vivid, tactile experiences. By weaving together fantasy and personal history, the exhibition invites viewers to inhabit a space that is at once familiar and otherworldly, reflecting the complexity of cultural duality.
