Artificial Kreativity presents Kreative Talks with Patrik Schumacher

Kreative Talks are the stories behind the creatives and how they are shaping the world.

Patrik Schumacher, principal of Zaha Hadid Architects, is widely recognized as one of the most prominent thought leaders within the fields of architecture, urbanism, and design. Since joining the practice in 1988, he has been instrumental in developing the studio from 20 people to a 500-person global architecture and design brand. He was responsible for evolving Zaha Hadid’s angular designs into fluid geometries by implementing his design theories and exploring algorithms and computational processes to create complex forms. He introduced his Parametricism manifesto at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2008 and won the RIBA Stirling Prize for excellence two years later. Notable projects co-authored with Zaha Hadid include the MAXXI Museum Rome, Dongdaedmun Design Plaza in Seoul, the London 2012 Olympic Aquatics Centre, and One Thousand Museum in Miami.

Prior to receiving his PhD from the Institute of Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University, he studied math, philosophy, and architecture. In 1996, he founded the Design Research Laboratory (DRL) at the Architectural Association in London, and continues to teach. Schumacher has written over 120 articles in architecture journals and published a series of manifestos promoting Parametricism. His books include “The Autopoiesis of Architecture,” Vol. I and II, and in 2023 he released, ‘Tectonism – Architecture for the 21st Century.’ He is a visiting professor at the International PhD programme of Tongji University in Shanghai and is currently researching the metaverse as an opportunity for architecture.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
