Screening of Landmine

Screening of the short movie Landmine and Q&A with the director.

18th July 16:00-18:00 at the Garden Cinema, London

The event includes a screening of the short film and a Q&A with director Darren Statman and cinematographer Tom Debenham.

Land Mine is the compelling and evocative story of the survivors of the Nazi Death Camps of Europe, and the horrors and violence they faced on their return to home to Poland, in the late summer of 1945.

With stunning cinematography from Tom Debenham (Under the Skin, V for Vendetta), this 15-minute film is a powerful exploration of human capacity for cruelty and kindness, in the aftermath of a world war.

Land Mine

Based on historical facts and record, Land Mine is inspired by the testimonial witness of the survivors who returned home to Poland only to be met with violence and continuing prejudice. 22-year-old Samuel, the only member of his family to survive the Bergen–Belsen Concentration Camp, returns to Poland after the horrors he has endured only to find his family’s farm inhabited by Piotr, a local labourer, now running a moonshine business.

The farm is a prize for Piotr, who sees himself as the rightful heir to the farm and the surrounding land. Samuel disrupting Piotr’s new-found equilibrium results in escalating violence and reignites past traumas and painful buried memories for both Samuel and his aggressor.
