Polish Film and Talk at Watermans – Kino! – The Wedding Day (18)

An illustrated talk about director Smarzowski's colourful and controversial career as modern Polish cinema’s arch-provocateur.

8th October, Watermans Arts Centre, Hounslow, London

The screening will be introduced by Michael Brooke, a freelance writer specialising in central/eastern European cinema, who will be giving an extensively illustrated talk about director Smarzowski’s colourful and controversial career as modern Polish cinema’s arch-provocateur – combining hard-hitting reconstructions of controversial aspects of Polish history (WWII, the martial law era) with equally confrontational films about present-day issues (alcoholism, institutional corruption, the Roman Catholic Church).

The Wedding Day (18) (original title Wesele) – Don’t be fooled by the title, Wojciech Smarzowski’s latest film is anything but joyously celebratory.

Winner at the Polish Film Awards 2022 for Best Cinematography and other nominations include Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Score.

Winner at the Polish Film Festival 2022 for Best Costume Design
