Manchester Screenings of ‘The Peasants’

Manchester Animation Festival will see further screenings of The Peasants, Poland's entry for Best International Feature at the Oscars

13th November at 12:00 and 15th November at 18:15

From the directors of Oscar-nominated Loving Vincent (DK Welchman, Hugh Welchman) comes another stunning hand-painted animation, The Peasants (Chłopi), based on a Nobel prize-winning novel by Władysław Reymont.

Following on the success of their previous film Loving Vincent, which grossed $42 million at the box office, The Peasants has been produced in the same painting technique that won the hearts of fans around the world.

The film’s world premiere took place at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023 as well as being screened as part of the 67th BFI London Film Festival.

Poland’s entry for Best International Feature and Best Original Score at the Oscars, The Peasants is a tragic story of a peasant girl Jagna forced to marry a much older, wealthy farmer Boryna, despite her love for his son Antek. With time, Jagna becomes the object of envy and hate of the villagers and has to fight to preserve her independence.

The film is in Polish with English subtitles.
