Silesian String Quartet & Mats Lidström cello – Lutosławski, Maliszewski and Weinberg at Wigmore Hall

The renowned Silesian String Quartet, joined by cellist Mats Lidström, will perform at London's esteemed Wigmore Hall on February 19th at 7:30 pm, presenting three pieces of 20th century Polish classical music.

The Silesian String Quartet, one of Poland’s leading and most distinguished chamber ensembles, is set to perform at London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall on February 19th, 2024 at 7:30 pm. The ensemble has received acclaim for their exceptional technical precision and emotional resonance, making this upcoming performance a truly special event for classical music enthusiasts.

The Quartet enjoys international renown, performing on concert stages in the majority of European countries as well as in the USA, Canada, China, Japan and South Korea. The ensemble has been performing since 1978 and places a significant emphasis on the interpretations of the masterpieces of chamber music by both contemporary and classical artists, making the group’s repertoire diverse and extensive.

Mats Lidström, who they are set to perform with, is an international soloist and chamber musician who has gained reputation for performances of great insight and virtuosity.

At the upcoming concert, the group will perform three works: the partly aleatoric single string quartet by Witold Lutosławski (1964), the seventh work in the medium by Mieczysław Weinberg (1957); and a String Quintet in D minor Op. 3 (1902) by Witold Maliszewski, Lutosławski’s teacher and the founder of the Odessa Conservatoire.
