Wizyta studyjna szwedzkich znawców sztuki śladami wystawy “Władysław Hasior – Daniel Rycharski „mogę wam opowiedzieć o sobie o was”” 🗺
“The trip was organized in order for us to meet involved curators and artist to discuss and plan an eventual collaboration to show a joint exhibition of artworks by Władysław Hasior and Daniel Rycharski at Södertälje konsthall. At Państwowa Galeria Sztuki, in Sopot, we met with the gallery’s director Eulalia Domanowska and her curatorial team and was introduced to the exhibition and the organizational parts. We also had the opportunity to learn more about the Państwowa Galeria Sztuki and its current exhibition We Want the Whole Life. Feminisms in Polish Art. We had a guided tour by one of the curators, Anka Leśniak, who introduced us to the many layers of the curatorial work and research.
In Warsaw we had the possibility to meet the artist Daniel Rycharski together with his gallerist Gunia Nowik at Gunia Nowik Gallery. This meeting also included Eulalia Domanowska and Weronika Elertowska (IAM) and it was open and productive and we discussed if Rycharski would be interested that we recommend him to IASPIS for a residency in Stockholm. We also discussed more partners in Sweden or Scandinavia. We also made a small detour and saw works of Rycharski in a private collection.
Beside these two meetings in Sopot and Warsaw, we also had the possibility to visit three major art institutions in Warsaw: Museum of Modern Art (Szymon Maliborski), Zachęta Galeria Sztuki (Dominika Kaszewska) and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. In the two first mentioned institutions we had personal guided tours which gave us a thorough introduction to their work and mission and current debates in the Polish art scene. At Ujazdowski we saw a video art exhibition with works from the collection which gave a good overview of Polish video art made during the 1970s up until today. The first day in Gdansk there was time for us to visit the European Solidarity Centre and walk around the harbor and old city, to understand the contemporary history and history of the Baltic Sea coast of Poland, an important region for artists as well as politically.
We also had the possibility to meet two co-workers of Adam Mickiewicz Institute in person, Weronika Elertowska and Małgorzata Miśkowiec, and the director of the institute, which was a good opportunity to get to know the global reach of their work. In between meetings and during lunch and dinner important exchange on Swedish and Polish art scenes was made.
The study trip was productive, and we had a much stimulating and comfortable experience.”
