Olga Tokarczuk in Israel

Noble prize winner Olga Tokarczuk arrives in Israel and will attend to literary events, in Jerusalem and in Ranana. Both are open to the public.

2018 Noble Prize winner for literature Olga Tokarczuk, an award winning Polish author, comes to Israel.

Tokarczuk will take part in two literary events the public is invited to attend:

The International Writers Festival Jerusalem –  Tokarczuk will participate in the opening event of the festival and engage in conversation with reporter Tamar Ish Shalom. May 15 2022 at 20:00.

YMCA Hall 26 King David St Jerusalem

In addition to winning the 2018 Noble Prize for literature, Tokarczuk is also the winner of the 2018 Man-Booker Award and is one of the most highly regarded writers of her generation.

Her books often deal with the spirit-body relationship. She also touches on animal rights, human rights, and the environment.

Two major works by her are available in Hebrew. They are the 2014 novel The Books of Jacob, a magnum opus dealing with the 18’th century false messiah Jacob Franck and the feminist

eco-thriller Over the Bones of the Dead which focuses on a woman consumed by love for nature and disregard for human conventions.

This latter novel was the basis of the 2018 film Spoor by Agnieszka Holland.

Ish Shalom will discuss (in English) the thin line between fiction and history with Tokarczuk as well as her commitment to core European values such as tolerance and equality.
