The famous and rich Czartoryski collection in Krakow is considered to be one of the most valuable in Poland and one of the most prestigious in Europe

The famous and rich Czartoryski collection in Krakow is considered to be one of the most valuable in Poland and one of the most prestigious in Europe.

It contains a variety of items: brilliant examples of European painting art, valuable books and documents from the Czartoryski Library etc.

The collection contains works by Leonardo Da Vinci and Rembrandt and by other greats between the thirteenth to the nineteenth centuries, artisanal objects, rare documents and ancient art.

“Oh my homeland, if I cannot save you, let me at least immortalize you” – These were the words of Princess Elisabeth Czartoryska at the creation of the Czartoryski art collection.

The collection was created by Princess Elisabeth Czartoryska in 1801. However, it kept growing and it contains national treasures which were added to it throughout the years.

Thus, for example a part of the Krakow National Museum which keeps functioning on a virtual basis in these strange times.

Furthermore, it is possible to view online more than one hundred thousand items of the digital collection of the Krakow National Museum.
