Shared Polish-Jewish memory – Literary event

Prof. Sławomir Żurek will be the guest of a literary event about the Polish-Jewish memory, the influence of Jewish community of Poland on Polish literature

Shared Polish-Jewish memory will be the focus of a literary discussion (in Polish) to be held on Dec 10th at 11:00 am with Prof. Sławomir Żurek.

Based in Lublin where he teaches at the John Paul II Catholic University, Prof. Żurek is the author of the 2021 study Polish-Jewish Re-Remembering.

Sketches – Studies – Interpretations (Odpamiętywanie polsko-żydowskie. Szkice – Studia – Interpretacje) which is an in-depth study of

how the Jewish community of Poland influenced Polish literature and how the two cultures impacted and encountered each other for centuries.

A Polish philologist and a historian of Polish literature, he serves as the Head of the Dept for Polish and Jewish literature.

He is an expert on the history of the Jews of Lublin and Lviv (now Ukraine) and wrote several books and articles on these issues.  

During 2018-2019 he resided in Israel and led academic cooperation between Haifa University and Ariel University.
