As part of the International Writers Festival in Jerusalem on May 11 at 20:30 p.m. there will be a literary meeting with the Polish writer Szczepan Twardoch.
The evening will be hosted by the Israeli writer and journalist Michal Zamir and will be dedicated to the novel “The King of Warsaw”, which has been published
these days in Hebrew by Carmel Publishing House, translation by Miriam Borenstein.
The event will be held in English.
The action of the novel takes place in 1937 in Warsaw and sheds light on the world of the crime scene in the interwar period, in which there is no shortage of gangsters of Jewish origin.
This is a dizzying crime story, full of violence, passion and struggle, at the center of which is Jakub Szapira, a ruthless Jewish criminal and professional boxer. In addition to the descriptions of the
violence of the Warsaw mafia in the 1930s, Twardoch presents the social and political tensions growing in Polish society on the eve of World War II.
Israeli writer and journalist Michal Zamir will talk to Szczepan Twardoch about the Jewish crime scene in Poland, the extensive research he conducted for the book and the surprising choices of
the subject matter of his works.
