Butterflies in the book – European Night of Literature

European Night of Literature is a one-of-a-kind cultural evening celebrating the finest of today’s European writing, among them the latest book of Olga Tokarczuk

The European Night of Literature  celebrates the best of contemporary European literature.  This year’s theme is “European Love.”

We live in times marked by crisis, war, and constant change — both in Europe and here in Israel. What can literature offer us in such moments? During this year’s edition of the European Night of Literature, we will explore the concept of love in all its forms — romantic, familial, and love for nature. We will also reflect on the spiritual dimension of love, as well as its boundless and undefined manifestations.

On this evening, popular Israeli actors — Yossi Marshek, Suzanna Papian, and Alon Friedman — will take the audience on a literary journey through Europe, reading excerpts from selected novels and revealing the richness and diversity of European voices. And this is only the beginning of the European experience!

We invite you to join the panel with Israeli publishers and illustrators and to listen to a captivating conversation with renowned writer Ayelet Gundar-Goshen. Enjoy screenings of short films inspired by European literature and experience live music that will carry the spirit of the evening even higher.

The Polish book during this year’s European Night of Literature is “The Empusium” by Olga Tokarczuk (Hebrew translation: Miriam Borenstein | Achuzat Bayit, 2025)
