Weekend of Polish Cinema with IFF Tofifest

Embark on a cinematic journey in Aberdeen during last events of Polish-Scottish Mini Festival 2024. Cinephiles are invited to delve into Jan Komasa's Oscar-nominated "Corpus Christi" and other compelling screenings, all free of charge. If you are a cinema enthusiast, join Polish Association Aberdeen for an upcoming event, a part of the 7th edition of the Polish-Scottish Mini Festival 2024Weekend of Polish Cinema with International Film Festival Tofifest.

International Tofifest Film Festival is a film festival recognized on the map of Europe, presenting auteur and unconventional cinema.

The guest of this year’s event will be the outstanding Polish film director and screenwriter Jan Komasa, who is an award-winning director whose credits include feature films, documentaries, commercials and music videos. This extremely talented filmmaker has received numerous awards at many of the most important film festivals around the world.

This year’s highlight event is set on 1st March as University of Aberdeen welcomes acclaimed Polish director and screenwriter Jan Komasa for an open screening of his Academy Award-nominated film “Corpus Christi”. The screening will be followed by an exclusive Q&A session with the director.

“Corpus Christi” is a story of young man’s spiritual transformation in a detention centre and his dream to minister a small-town parish. The movie was nominated for an Oscar in the Best International Foreign Film category in 2020. In addition, it was also nominated for the Spanish Film Academy Award – Goya Award, the French Film Academy Award for the César Award and the European Film Award.

NO RESERVATION NEEDED – just come to University of Aberdeen, KCF7 room, King’s College.

Polish Fashion Stories: Unexpected Encounter – Batik

The earliest known examples of Polish batiks appeared around 1903 at an exhibition in Kraków, when the artist Jan Bukowski presented furniture upholstered in textiles decorated with what was called then “a manner of Easter eggs” - it was before the term batik had even entered the Polish language. From this point, other Kraków artists began to further explore the technique and its possibilities.
