The Trauma of Holodomor around the Globe. Memory and Literature 🗺

LEIPZIG / 18:00 / Ukrainian Week 2024 – Lecture by dr habil. Anna Gaidash and Discussion

#SolidarityWithUkraine

The trauma of the Holodomor was hidden from public knowledge for decades during Soviet regime. As a hidden narrative it wandered through the literature and the memories of Ukrainian people around the world, never forgotten by those who suffered and lost their loved ones. But not only they remembered and wrote about. Dr. habil. Anna Gaidash (Leipzig University / Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University) will highlight books about the Holodomor written by US-American authors (Bohdan Boychuk, Askold Melnyczuk, Eric Litteken) and will talk to Alexander Kratochvil (LMU Munich) about her research results.

This event will be held in English.

Organiser of the Ukrainian Week: Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut Sachsen, Grassi-Museum Leipzig & Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig in cooperation with Polnisches Institut in Berlin – Filiale Leipzig, made possible through the generous funding of the US Embassy in Berlin, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the Saxon State Chancellery
